A zoning hearing was held on Friday, December 22. A large crowd gathered to a variance request made by Jaron Priest for his building project in Mendenhall’s Heritage District. Priest is attempting to build three residential homes in the district.
Toys for Tots made a stop in Mendenhall last Friday and provided gifts to over 400 children.
The event was coordinated by Zeta Phi Beta Rho Iota Zeta Sorority, with support from the City of Mendenhall, the Mendenhall Area Chamber of Commerce, and others.
Mendenhall High School recently hosted their first annual MHS CTE Color Run.
Suzan Bourn and Sandra Jager organized the event to benefit several of the student body organizations. Proceeds from the color run were dispersed among Mendenhall High School’s FFA, FCCLA, and DECA.
It is starting to look a lot like Christmas around Simpson County. Main Street in Mendenhall and Magee has been decorated with reindeer, candy canes, and trumpet- sounding angels. The towns of D’Lo, Harrisville, and Braxton each held their Christmas parades last Saturday.
Last month the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of Mendenhall and Magee made a common decision. Both cities adopted a resolution presented by the Mississippi Municipal League urging the Mississippi Legislature to allow municipalities to submit debts owed to them and the state to the Department of Revenue.
The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted a detailed presentation on how to establish a church security program.
A large number of church shootings within recent years, including such high profile cases as the Charleston Church Shooting involving white supremacist Dylan Roof, prompted the meeting in Mendenhall.
