May 3

Creating Second Chances (C2C) will host a workshop in recognition of Older Americans Month. The following topics will be discussed: Common Changes Associated with Aging, Depression in Older Adults, Silver Alert, and Warning Signs of Dementia. This workshop is free, but registration is required. May 4-5

Hwy. 28 Longest Yard Sale will be held May 4 and 5. The yard sale runs 40 miles from Magee to Laurel. There will be antiques, handmade crafts, whatnots, quilts, iron works, housewares, woodworks, plants and pyrex. The Facebook page is Hwy. 28 Longest Yard Sale. May 5

Braxton Fire Department will have a Spring Fling on May 5. A blood drive will be held from 1-7 p.m. There will be some great food such as chicken, steak sandwiches, Polk’s sausage dogs and more. Activities will include jumpies for the kids, a cake walk and Bingo. The raffle this year is for a crossbow, $100, and $50. Tickets are $2 each for a chance at all three.


May 6

Pastor Ralph D. Walker and wife Sister Debbie Crofton-Walker of the Good Hope M.B. Church of Magee will be honored for 25 years of service on Sunday, May 6, at noon. The speaker will be Rev. Johnny Mosley, pastor of Plesant M.B. Church, Mt. Olive. Everyone is invited to attend.


Annual Missionary Program will be held at Zionell C.M.E. Church on Sunday, May 6, at 2 p.m. Rev. Elsie Rhodes will be the speaker. Rev. Eddie L. Cole is the pastor.


Annual Choir Day will be held at Rock Pisgah M.B. Church, 110 Rock Pisgah Church Road, Mendenhall, on May 6 at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.


May 7-9

Spring Revival will be held at Rock Pisgah M.B. Church, 110 Rock Pisgah Church Road, Mendenhall, Monday, May 7 through Wednesday, May 9. Services will be at 7 nightly. Rev. Scottie Irwin is pastor. Theme: “Will you not revive us again. That Your people may rejoice in You.” Psalm 85:6. Speaker for the week will be Rev. Dewayne Bloodsaw, pastor of Lee’s Chapel M.B. Church, Sandhill and Pilgrim Rest M.B. Church, Carthage. Everyone is invited to attend.


May 8

Julieanna Jackson, Miss Mississippi Teen USA and daughter of Danny and Tori Jackson of Mize, is having her send off party for Miss Teen USA on Tuesday, May 8, from 6-8 p.m. at The Vault in Magee. Julieanna will be signing autographs and taking pictures.  Everyone is invited to join for cake and ice cream.

Angel Wings Outreach Center of Mendenhall and Safe Havens Interfaith Partnership Against Domestic Violence present Partnering to Address Domestic Violence on Thursday, May 10, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the E-911 building, 1752 Simpson Hwy 149, Mendenhall. Training is free. Lunch will be provided. This is a training for faith leaders (clergy and lay), domestic violence advocates, and anyone who is interested in understanding the importance of a faith-based response to domestic violence. May 12

Zion Hill Baptist Church and the Relay 4 Life Ministry will have a Relay for Life Festival on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All groups and organizations that would like to participate contact Willie Rutherford at 601-832-7651. The third annual Pre-Mother’s Day will be held May 12 at 12:30  p.m. at St. John M.B. Church, 1901 St. John Road, Braxton. May 20-23

Annual Spring Revival will be held at Mount Mercy M.B. Church, Hwy 49, Magee. Worship services will begin Sunday, May 20. The speaker for Sunday will be Rev. Mary Grove’s Male Choir First Anniversary will be held on May 20 at 1:30 p.m. All male choirs, soloists and groups are asked to participate in this celebration. Everyone is invited to attend.


June 1-2

Magee High School Class of 1988 will celebrate their 30 year reunion on Friday, June 1, with a Meet and Greet at Magee High School from 6-7 p.m. and tour the old stomping grounds and reminisce. A block party will be held at The Vault in Downtown Magee from 7-10 p.m. On Saturday, June 2, the 30 year class celebration will be held at Pretty Unique event venue, Hwy 18 W, Jackson, from 7 p.m. to midnight. The cost for the 2 day event is $150 per classmate and allows one guest. A deposit of $75 was due by March 12 and the final payment of $75 was due by April 2. June 2

Rock Pisgah Pastor’s Aide will host a Mother/Daughter Banquet on Saturday, June 2, in the church’s fellowship hall at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to join this special event to say Thank you to all mothers and daughters for their commitment to one another. The guest speaker will be Sister Alycia Irvin. Appetizers will be served. Tickets are available in advance from any Pastor’s Aide member or at the door. A Bible study on the book of Revelations is being offered every Sunday night at 6 p.m. led by Pastor Bro. Donald Green at Fellowship Baptist Church, Hwy. 13 South, Mendenhall.


Morning prayer and afternoon luncheon is held every Thursday at Mt. Moriah Church. Prayer time is 11 a.m. until noon. Lunch and fellowship time is 12:15-1:15 p.m. Prayer and lunch are open to all people to get spiritually fed and natural food for the soul. Senior citizens, the needy and the homeless, come and bring a friend. Mt. Moriah Church is located at 160 Mt. Moriah Church Road, Magee.


The Books-n-Lunch Club meets at the Magee Library at 12:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month to discuss a book chosen for adult readers. New participants are welcome.
