Arson Suspected After Shooting Incident

On January 4, 2019, shortly after 9PM, Simpson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 202 Big Hill Road on a report of shots fired into a home. The home owner, James Pittman returned home and discovered items broken on the floor and bullet holes in the walls.

The subsequent incident took place during the afternoon of February 4, 2019, Mr. Pittman left the residence and shortly after, he received a call of his home being on fire. Deputies responded along with Pinola Volunteer Fire Department. Pittman’s vehicle had been shot several times and his home was fully engulfed in flames. Deputies interviewed several potential witnesses; however, no suspects have been named at this time. The Simpson County Sheriff’s Department along with the Mississippi State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the case. The Sheriff’s department asks that all residents in the area be aware of their surroundings and to report anything suspicious.
