Trojans Drop Game 1 in State Championship Series

The Magee Trojans fell to the North Pontotoc Vikings at Trustmark Park in the first game of the State Championship series 2-12. The Trojans took the field less than 24 hours removed from a grueling 14 inning game 3 in South State against West Marion. Game three needed the talents of pitchers Luke West and Adam May for the Trojans to come out on top. This left the list of available starting pitchers thin.

Seth Russell started the game and ran into trouble early. Pitching struggles coupled with untimely errors saw the Vikings take a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the second. The Vikings followed up with three scored runs in the third bumping their lead to 8-1. The Trojans continued to battle, but never found their footing. The game ended in the sixth inning with the final score being 2-12 in a loss. It was not the start to the series the Trojans anticipated, but their will to fight is intact. The team is now in another must win situation, which they have responded well to all season. After some much needed rest the fans, coaches, and players expect the energy to be higher in game 2. The next game will be Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
