New officials take oath of office


A moderate crowd gathered at Mendenhall City Hall for the swearing in ceremony for the Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Friday June 30. 
The ceremony was held on the front porch of City Hall. City Clerk Tiffany Wallace welcomed everyone in attendance and was followed by Reverend Kevin Jones of Lighthouse Church, who gave an invocation. 
Boy Scout Troop #81 presented colors and led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. Johnathan Statham, minister of music at First Baptist Church, sang “God Bless America.” 
Judge Eugene Knight was responsible for the administration of the swearing-in process. 
Mayor Todd Booth, Alderman-at-Large Tim Gray, Alderman Ward 1 Donnie Thomas, Alderman Ward 2 Robert Mangum, Alderman Ward 3 Janna Fay Miller, and Alderman Ward 4 Sandra Weeks Stein each stood before Judge Knight and recited the oath of office. 
Pastor Rodney Anderson of First Baptist Church of Mendenhall gave the benediction, and a reception was held immediately following the ceremony in the board room. 
The new Board is in place and is looking forward to the future. 
Returning Mayor Booth said, “I am looking forward to leading the city for another four years, and we have made great strides. I am looking forward to moving forward and working together to improve Mendenhall.”
Alderman-at-Large Tim Gray said, “I am looking forward to an honest, straightforward four years to move the city forward.”
Alderman Ward 1 Donnie Thomas said, “I am looking forward to working with these men and women and doing what’s good for the city.”
Alderman Ward 3 Jana Miller said, “We are celebrating and looking forward to continued growth and moving the city forward in a positive mode.” Miller also anticipates and plans to work towards bringing in new businesses.
Alderman Ward 4 Sandra Weeks Stein said, “I am looking forward to working with the board to make Mendenhall better.”
