Thursday turned out to be a good day for animal activists in Simpson County.

The City of Magee is asking drivers who normally park on Main Avenue on Friday mornings to avoid doing so. 

A press released stated on Thursday morning June 6, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department had an officer involved shooting in the county.

The Mendenhall Christmas Tour will be held on Saturday, December 2,  from 4 to 7 p.m.  this year’s tour features three  homes.

Homes on the tour are those of Leslie and Donnie Thomas and Cathy McCormick, 611 Main Street;  Jeanie and Johnny Gregory, 101 Durr Avenue; and Shay and Paul Barry, 2956 Cato Road, Braxton.

Body found and identified

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, November 20, the Magee Police Department responded to a call describing a dead body near the Highway 28 West and Highway 49 intersection.

Assistant Chief Joey Womack explained that a body was lying in the road not far from the CEFCO and Texaco service stations.

MHP Thanksgiving enforcement report

The Mississippi Highway Patrol concluded its Thanksgiving enforcement period which began Wednesday, November 22, at 6 p.m. and ended Sunday, November 26 at midnight. MHP issued 4879 citations with 46 DUI arrests. 163 motor vehicle crashes were investigated which included 55 injuries and 5 fatalities on state, federal highways, and interstates.
