The qualifying deadline for the November 8, General Election passed last Friday on September 9.
The candidate list is set and the ballot will feature the offices of Third Congressional District House of Representatives, Chancery Court Judge, Circuit Court Judge, Chancery Clerk, School Board District 1, and School Board District 2.
Primary elections were held for the Third Congressional District in June, producing a Democratic and Republican candidate for the general election. Republican incumbent Michael Guest will face Democratic candidate Shuwaski Young.
Three candidates have qualified for Chancery Court Judge. Incumbent David Shoemake and Albert Turnage have both qualified for Chancery Court Judge Place 1. Incumbent Gerald M. Martin was the only candidate to qualify for Chancery Court Judge Place 2.
Incumbents Matthew Sullivan and Stanley Sorey were the only candidates to qualify for their respective positions of Circuit Court Judge Place 1 and 2 and will run unopposed.
Six candidates qualified for the office of Chancery Clerk. Those candidates will be Tim Gray, Clayton Giles, Willie Ree McDonald, Randy Moore, Tameika Smith, and Red Everett.
School Board District 1 produced one candidate, Lillie Hardy. Hardy is the incumbent for School Board District 1 and will run unopposed for another term. School Board District 2 produced two candidates, Ralph Walker and Krystal Kahn.
A political forum is scheduled for September 22 at the Magee Community Center at 6 p.m. Several of the candidates have signed up to speak, and everyone is encouraged to attend and meet the candidates. Refreshments will be served by the Magee Chamber of Commerce.
