Unofficial election results were released last Tuesday for Simpson County that aligned with many of the national trends resulting in victory for Republican candidates.
Voter turnout increased compared to previous elections with just over 65 percent of the registered voters in the county casting ballots.
Of the 17,01 registered voters, 11,152 ballots were cast.
President Donald Trump won Simpson County convincingly, receiving over 67 percent of total ballots cast. Trump received 7,545 votes to Kamala Harris’s 3,475 votes. National results followed the same trend with Trump winning the electoral and popular vote by a large margin. Trump thoroughly outperformed Harris in the swing states, winning all seven.
Senator Roger Wicker won Simpson County with 7,548 votes opposed to Ty Pinkins with 3,385. This trend matched the state with Wicker receiving 63 percent of the ballots cast for his office.
Congressman Michael Guest ran unopposed.
Supreme Court District 2 Position 2 was decided between incumbent judge Dawn Beam, and challenger David P. Sullivan. Sullivan defeated Beam in Simpson County receiving 6,333 votes compared to her 3,411 votes. Sullivan won 54 percent of the ballots statewide and will replace Beam as Supreme Court District 2 position 2 judge.
Thomas Ray Floyd emerged as the new representative for School Board District 3 with 1,092 votes. Floyd received 50.23 percent of the votes. Incumbent Danny Cowart received 283 votes, Brianne Kelly received 472 votes, and Ronnell McDaniel received 221 votes.
Terra Herrington Mallette ran unopposed to represent School Board District 4. Calvin Edwards, Donna Magee, and Wanda Bridges each ran unopposed for their respective Election Commissioner positions.
All results are considered unofficial until the election has been certified.
