Update: Thursday, September 7, 2023. Simpson County deputies were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence on Simpson Hwy 545 between Hwy 28 and Hwy 149 in Magee. Once deputies made contact, the suspect then ran on foot to Goodwater Cemetery. During a physical altercation with the suspect. He managed to take a deputy’s patrol vehicle. During the pursuit, the suspect struck at least two vehicles. The pursuit ended near U.S. Hwy 49 and Mary Grove Church Road in Magee. The suspect then emerged from the stolen patrol vehicle with a deputy’s AR-15 rifle. He was subsequently shot by a deputy and later succumbed to his wounds. The sheriff’s department is not releasing the names of the parties involved at this time. This investigation, like any officer involved shooting will be handled by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations. No deputies were injured during this incident.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer involved shooting involving the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department that occurred on September 7 th , 2023, at the Quick Stop gas station on Highway 49 in Simpson County.
MBI received notification at approximately 12:00 p.m. of this critical incident. Deputies were responding to a call for service when the involved subject presented a gun at the deputies. The involved subject received fatal injuries. The deputies involved did not receive any serious physical injuries. MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
