The Town of Braxton is happy to announce a collaboration with the Little Free Library organization.
Little Free Library is a nonprofit organization based in Hudson, Wisconsin. Their mission is to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Libraries. Their vision is a Little Free Library in every community and a book for every reader. The organization believes all people are empowered when the opportunity to discover a personally relevant book to read is not limited by time, space, or privilege.
Braxton Mayor Michael Arinder said, “Our goal is to provide additional childhood opportunities for our community members to have access to a repository of books that are available to our citizens by way of a free library system that will be housed outside of the Town Hall and Community Center.”
The Little Free Library is available via a small vending station located outside of each building and is available 24 hours a day. The books featured in the library will vary and will range in topic from child to adult, non-fiction and fiction, as well as general resource books.
Arinder explained that the project has been made possible by the support of many. The containers used to house the books were donated by Pat Brown and the Simpson County Newspaper. The containers were then decorated and prepared by the McMillan family of Braxton. Simpson County Junior High donated a large number of books over various topics.
The Town of Braxton is officially registered with the Little Free Library Organization and can be found on their website at littlefreelibrary.org. Braxton will now be featured on the organizations app when travelers are searching for a nice place to stop in, relax, and read a book. A special thanks was offered from the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to those who helped make this possible.
Mayor Arinder was also excited to announce the launching of Braxton’s new town website, which website can be found at townofbraxton.com. It will feature upcoming community events, town news, and an option to pay water bills online.
