New Grading Policy Revisions as a Result of the COVID-19 Pandemic
Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade Students Promotion and Retention:
● Most students will be promoted to the next grade level
● If a student was receiving Tier III intensive interventions in ELA and/or math, the school’s Academic Review Committee will review all information/data regarding the child’s progress during the prior nine-week terms and make a decision regarding promotion. The student’s parent/guardian will be a part of this discussion. The Academic Review Committee will make the decision regarding promotion/retention. If a parent disagrees with the committee’s decision, they may appeal it to the District Academic Review Committee. The district committee will consider all information and make a recommendation to the superintendent. The superintendent will make the final decision.
Third-Fourth Grade Students:
● The final grade of each of the first nine weeks will be averaged to determine the final yearly average.
● If a student receives an average of 60 or higher in English Language Arts and math, that student will be promoted.
● The grade of 60-69 will be a D.
Fifth-Eighth Grade Students (excluding ICT, KeyStone, MS. Studies, World Geography, and 8th Grade Math, which are Carnegie unit classes that count for credits for high school)
● The final grade of each of the first 3 nine weeks will be averaged to determine the final yearly average.
● If a student receives an average of 60 or higher in English Language Arts, math, science, and social studies, that child will be promoted.
● The grade of 60-69 will be a D.
Carnegie Unit Classes
● The final grade of each of the first 3 nine weeks will be averaged to determine the final yearly average.
● The grading scale will remain the same. A grade of 65 or higher is required to pass the course and receive the credit.
● If a student has a yearly average of 55-64 after the final grades of the first 3 terms have been averaged, then that student will be given specific work to remediate the deficient assignments. This work will be graded, and scores averaged to determine if the student has at least a grade or 65 to pass and receive credit for the course. All students in this situation will be notified by the principal or teachers.
