Simpson County Schools will be back in session October 21 in a traditional setting as much as possible.
Superintendent Greg Paes told the paper on Tuesday morning that plans are for the district to return to class as much as possible beginning October 21.
Classes will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Wednesdays will be used to clean and sanitize classrooms, and students will utilize distance learning on Wednesday.
Students and teachers as well as staff will wear masks and continue to practice social distancing. Paes said, “We need to get our children back in the classroom in a normal learning environment as much as possible.”
Paes said the district will continue to utilize Google Classroom along with the Chromebooks as planned. Paes said the Chromebooks, which are computers, will be assigned to students in October.
He said the intention is to have a regular classroom setting as much as possible. He said if there is a spike in Covid-19 numbers may force the district to reevaluate. Bus routes will run as in a normal school year.
Paes said the number of cases in the district schools have not been too high and that there have been a lot of quarantines but not many in actual cases of COVID being transferred at school.
An online parent survey has been placed through the individual school sites. The survey addresses parents’ plans for the participation of their children.
Paes said some technology issues still need to be addressed, like additional hot spots in the classroom to allow for more students to be able to log into on-line programs without using too much bandwidth.
