High School students are invited to attend the Mississipppi Soil and Water Conservation Youth Camp to be held at the FFA Center in Raymond, Miss., on June 11-15, sponsored by the Mississippi Association of Conservation Districts (MACD).
Students entering grades 10, 11 or 12, or who are 2023 graduates can participate by being sponsored by their local Soil and Water Conservation District.
Scholarships are available to qualifying students who are attending the camp for the first time. Students may attend the camp a second time, but they must bring an additional camper/friend with them. Students may only apply for the camp scholaship if attending for the first time.
Participants will learn management of natural resources from experts and acquire hands-on knowledge of the state’s soils, wildlife, agriculture and forest resources through outdoor settings and tours. The goal is that campers will become conservationists and learn about the interaction of natural resources with the world around them.
The camper who demonstrates the greatest interest and aptitude for natural resources will receive a college scholarship from the MACD Endowment Fund to be used at any Mississippi Institute of Higher Learning.
For camp info and registration forms, financial aid to attend, and information about applying for the scholarship, call the Simpson County SWCD office at 601-847-0035.
