A special meeting of the Magee Board of Aldermen was called Tuesday morning to discuss a walkout of several members of the Magee Police Department.
Last Friday the resignation of several members of the Police Department was reported. Resignations supposedly came from Police Chief Chris Jones, Assistant Police Chief Billy Seghini, and officers Sean Cooper, Walter Burkett, Jaime Burkett and Mike Grubbs, brother of Alderman Mark Grubbs. This was reported by Magee News, which is owned and operated by Alderman-at-Large, Sue Honea.
Tuesday’s meeting started with a large number of law enforcement officers, fire department personnel, the newspaper and two television station crews in attendance.
Citing the need to discuss personnel and performance, the board opted to close the meeting to the public and went into executive session. They held a 50 minute discussion and then closed the executive session. At that point they motioned to close the meeting. The paper asked if the board made any decisions. They said any actions of the board will be handled at the next regular board meeting set for Tuesday, March 1.
It is reported but not confirmed that more shooting incidents occurred in Magee over the weekend and that break-ins of automobiles in which guns were stolen also occurred on Kennedy Drive.
The board offered no comment in regard to the meeting or the recent shooting situations. Nor did they offer any comment regarding the resignations of police officers.
