The Mendenhall Chamber of Commerce hosted a Merry Mendenhall Christmas on December 3 in downtown Mendenhall that featured stores on Main Street opening for Christmas sales.
The event was held in the beautifully decorated Alice Davis Park, where Christmas music and activities attracted families. The highlight of the event was a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Merry Mendenhall Christmas was started in 2019 and has grown each year. The event has since become a community favorite and drew a large crowd last Friday.
PriorityOne Bank sponsored an Ornament Corner for children to create unique ornaments to hang on their Christmas trees. They also passed out holiday coloring books.
The Keep Mendenhall Beautiful organization served hot chocolate that hit the spot on a cool Friday night.
Several of the shops that participated in the event were met with a steady crowd of people looking to get a head start on holiday shopping. Overall the event was a success.
Chamber President Josh Pierce said, “This was our third year doing it, and it’s probably our biggest year yet. We had over 90 kids come through and see Santa and Mrs. Claus. The event is growing every year and we had several shops participate and stay open late.”
Pierce said he saw several citizens leaving shops after purchasing from the downtown businesses. He was proud, he said, that the event was able to accomplish both goals of providing family fun and attracting traffic to businesses on Main Street.
Pierce said, “When we first started we obviously wanted to provide some fun to families, but we also wanted to attract people to shop in Mendenhall. And we’re proud of the participation we got from our businesses. It was a great event, good singing, good fun, and good for our businesses.”
Pierce believes the event can continue to grow and believes the Chamber will be able to build on their success next year.
Pierce said, “We had the parade Thursday and Merry Mendenhall on Friday. It was a great kick off for the holiday season in Mendenhall.”
