At approximately 7:05 a.m., on August 23, 2021, the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle accident on MS540, east of Zion Hill Road, in Simpson County.
Preliminary reports indicate a white 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Asiah M. Saranthus, 21, of Mize, MS, was traveling westbound on MS540, and a 2007 Simpson County school bus was traveling eastbound on MS540, when both vehicles collided with each other.
Ms Saranthus was pronounced dead at the scene by the Simpson County Coroner. The school bus was carrying five children at the time of the accident. The driver of the school bus and all five children were not injured. The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was not wearing her seatbelt.
The accident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
