The City of Mendenhall has received the new 2020 Kentworth Garbage Truck. The new truck has the capacity to handle all garbage concerns of the city. It also allows the city to move the previous truck into a backup role in case problems arise in the future.
The board accepted a bid from Truckworx to purchase a new garbage truck for $95,000 during the July regularly scheduled meeting. The truck was purchased after a previous attempt to purchase on the buyback program fell through.
In June, Samantha Raner with Government Truck Sales presented the board with an opportunity to purchase a 2019 garbage truck on the buyback program. The truck was previously used by the City of Forest under a lease purchase agreement and was under warranty through three years. Raner said since the truck was recovered from Mississippi she believed a Mississippi municipality should have the first opportunity to purchase it. However the truck was sold before the City had an opportunity to purchase it.
Mayor Todd Booth explained that he and the board continued to look for opportunities to purchase a garbage truck and landed on a new deal for a better truck with Truckworx. The city will put the new truck to use immediately.
