If you are from Simpson County you have the mindset of helping others and that is what you do.
That is the case with Brentley Berry and his senior project for Simpson County Academy. Giving back to the community is the theme for Brentley’s project. He choose to raise funds for Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, in Memphis.
The reason he did was to honor Koby Walker, classmate and patient of St. Jude’s Hospital. St. Jude’s is known for thier philanthropy in treating children with health issues at no cost to the family. The only treatment for Koby’s ailment, Mucolipidosis, is a bone marrow treatment which was provided when he was one year old. The donor was his sister, Anna Claire.
He had the transplant at one year old at St. Jude’s he is now sixteen.
So this is where Brentley ties in. As his senior project Brentley decided to have a fund-raising event for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
The event is a golf tournament to be held at the Simpson County Country Club. It is a Three-person Scramble and is slated for Thursday, July 1.
To make the event more fun and to attract a larger crowd plans are to host a day and night tournament. That means nine holes will be played during the evening and once it gets dark another nine holes will be played to determine who the winners will be.
A meal will be provided during the event. Cost to sponsor a team is $225 with proceeds going to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital honoring Koby Walker.
You may contact Brentley at 601-382-3209 or call the country club to sign up for the event. If you are interested in being a $100 hole sponsor contact Brently. Donations are accepted and appreciated. This event is co-sponsored by Peoples Bank and Chris Dunn.
Deadline to register for the tournament is Tuesday June 29.
