Simpson General Hospital received the Outstanding Business of the Year Award from the Mendenhall Area Chamber of Commerce. Presenter David Massey emphasized that SGH has operated in the community for over 65 years and was recently chosen by the Department of Health as a Center of Excellence.

M’hall Chamber celebrates city’s successes

The 62nd Mendenhall Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet was held on March 21 at the National Guard Armory in Mendenhall.
A silent auction was once again featured before the banquet began and included several unique items such as paintings, decorations, and tools.

Mendenhall gets grant for walking trail

The Mendenhall Mayor’s Health Council led by Alderwoman Janna Miller was able to secure a $50,000 Hometown Grant from T-Mobile that will be used to install a quarter mile walking trail at the Mendenhall Sportsplex.

Parolees moved after citizens complain

The 40 parolees that were being housed at 222 West South Avenue in Mendenhall have vacated the premises since a citizens’ meeting, according to the director of the M.O.R.E program Luther Martin.

Maxie chosen to lead Trojan football

Magee High School introduced new head coach and athletic director Chuck Maxie last Friday at a public meeting.
Principal Bill Broadhead stated that Maxie has been a part of several successful high school programs and has coached collegiately on the junior college level.
