The Mendenhall Tigers had a tough matchup last Thursday against the Northeast Jones Tigers in field conditions that were less than ideal. Heavy rain throughout the entire game made it difficult for the Tigers to execute on either side of the ball as they fell 0-30 in their final game of the regular season.
The Tigers had some opportunities throughout the game but failed to capitalize. The performance was not indicative of what the team has shown throughout the season. The Tigers have played competitive throughout the regular season despite finishing with a 4-5 overall record. They went 2-2 in district play and held the district champion Forest Bearcats to 13 points in a tightly contested game.
The Tigers fielded a team with a mix of senior players with some experience, but an overall young core group led by freshman quarterback Ty Davis. The group will get their first taste of playoff experience this Friday when they take on the Poplarville Hornets this Friday night with a 7 p.m. game time.
Mendenhall and Poplarville have faced off against each other several times in the playoffs over recent years. This familiarity should make for an exciting game with both teams being well prepared to execute at a high level.
The Tigers will have an excellent opportunity to upset a good Poplarville team and build some positive momentum as they prepare for their playoff run.
