Carlos Ray Dollar, 76, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2019, shortly after being diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer after overcoming prostate cancer in 2018.
A husband, Dad and Papa, Ray is remembered by his family as a man of great integrity and strength. He was humble and always put his family before himself.
A native of Magee, Mississippi, Ray was valedictorian of the Class of 1961 at Magee High School and recipient of the Robert M. Carrier Scholarship at the University of Mississippi, where he earned his bachelor of science in chemical engineering. He met Janice, his wife of 52 years, during a summer internship at Exxon in Baytown, Texas. Ray received his PhD in chemical engineering at Louisiana State University. He was a professor of chemical engineering at VPI in Blacksburg, Virginia, before relocating to Lake Jackson, Texas, in 1972 to work as a chemical engineer at Dow Chemical Co. in Freeport, Texas. After retiring from Dow, he worked for Barry D. Payne & Associates in Houston.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Lavon Dollar, and brothers, Paul David and Hershel.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Page Dollar; daughters, Christy Dollar Brinton and Jan Dollar Waddy (Michael); son, Michael Ray Dollar; grandchildren, Wills Brinton, Anne Elizabeth Brinton, Caroline Brinton, and James Waddy; brothers, Doug Dollar (Jane) and Mark Dollar; and sister, Carolyn Strayham (Jack).
His family is comforted knowing that Ray is now at peace with his Heavenly Father.
