By careful academic maneuvering, I managed not to take physics in school. That physics book had too many numbers and diagrams in it to suit me. I did peruse it long enough, however, to learn one rule of physics that I’ve never forgotten: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
I remembered that rule because it seemed to apply to almost every decision I would make in life, whether or not my decision has anything to do with actual physics.

In the ocean of college football Mississippi State’s upset of The Associated Press 12th-ranked team may not have moved the needle much.

But context is important, and in the time and place of Bulldogs football right now, it’s hard to overstate a 27-24 comeback win against Arizona State, the first signature win for Jeff Lebby.

Signature win yes, but just his fourth win overall, which brings us back to time and place.

If Mississippi’s National Guard is truly needed to combat crime, there is more than enough for them to do in the soldiers’ home state.
That’s why Gov. Tate Reeves’ decision to contribute 200 of the state’s Guardsmen to the deployment in Washington, D.C., is more about publicity than public safety.
Last month, Reeves and the Republican governors of five other states dispatched Guard units to the nation’s capital in support of President Donald Trump’s decision to supplement local law enforcement efforts with more than 2,000 troops.

Mississippi is as dangerous as D.C.
