The Mississippi Senate had an eventful fourth week of the 2025 Legislative Session, marked by significant legislative actions, recognitions, and performances. The Senate passed House Concurrent Resolution 31, calling for a joint session of the Legislature on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, for the Governor’s State of the State address.
The Senate on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, honored Dr. Steven Reed, co-owner of Southern Eye Clinic of Vicksburg, with presentation of Senate Resolution 24, for being the first Mississippian to serve as President of the American Optometric Association.
The Senate on Thursday, January 30, 2025, commended the Heidelberg High School Oilers Football Team and Head Coach Darryl Carter for winning their first-ever MHSAA Class 2A State Championship with presentation by Senator Juan Barnett, of Senate Resolution 8.
The West Lauderdale High School choir performed on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in the second-floor rotunda as part of Lt. Governor Delbert Hosemann’s tradition of inviting students to share their talents at the Capitol.
Senators attended numerous committee meetings throughout the week and are preparing for a busy schedule next week as the February 4 deadline approaches for committees to report general bills and constitutional amendments originating in the Senate.
