The Magee Trojans traveled to USM for their spring game to face defending MAIS state champions Adams Christian.
The Trojans won 18-7, and Head Coach Chase Courtney said he was pleased with what he saw from his team. He expected some mistakes, as the Trojans played the game missing three starters along their offensive line.
Courtney said, “We had a lot of pieces moving around. We played with a lot of energy, and we felt like we should have scored on every possession.”
Courtney said the Trojan defense tackled well for a spring game and played with a lot of energy. Players were flying to the ball on defense and playing physical. He said that overall it was a dominant performance by Magee’s defense.
Courtney highlighted speed as a strength of the Trojans entering the offseason.
He said, “We can run and we want to be tougher and play with an edge. We want to get a little more physical along the offensive line, and that’s something I think will come from the summer.”
Courtney said the Trojans are making it a point to win both lines of scrimmage and become more physical.
When asked what Trojan fans can expect, Courtney said, “The standard is the standard. So we’re going to set the bar high; we’re going to play our hardest every Friday and let the chips fall where they may, but I feel good about it.”
