Trojan cheerleader sponsor Bailey Williams says she is excited and looking forward to her time at Magee High School. Williams explained that this season will be her second year coaching cheer but her first at Magee High. Williams was a cheerleader in high school and a dance major in college, which is an important skill in cheerleading. She admitted that continuing to be involved with cheerleading has always been her goal.
Williams said that the squad is looking really good. This summer they attended UCA Cheer Camp at Mississippi State University, where they gave an outstanding performance. At cheer camp teams are awarded gold, silver and bronze ribbons after each of their evaluations. The Magee Cheerleaders were evaluated in three different categories of cheer, sidelines, and extreme routine. The girls were put in a unique situation where they had only a morning to learn the routine they were to be evaluated on that afternoon. The team came together and worked hard to earn gold ribbons in each of the three categories. This amazing accomplishment earned them a chance to perform during the pre-game show of the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., this winter.
Williams said, “They all have a really good work ethic and they’ve worked hard for this.” Williams said that this is the first time she has been on a team that has the potential to go all the way.
She said, “They can go all the way this year as far as competition. We have two competitions this year, and during the MHSAA competition we have the potential to get first place and win the rings, the banner, and everything.”
Williams speaks highly of her squad’s potential and said the girls have earned the right to perform at the Citrus Bowl, which will be their chance to showcase their talent and represent Magee on a large stage.
This is why the Magee Cheerleaders are asking for help from the community to send the squad to the Citrus Bowl. Williams explained that the team needs to raise $12,000 to attend the event to cover meals, uniforms, and other expenses. The team will perform on January 1 at the Citrus Bowl.
Williams said, “Everyone including Dr. Duncan is fully behind us and excited for the girls. This is a great opportunity.”
She asked that any donations be sent to Magee High School and addressed to Bailey Williams. The Magee High School Cheerleaders will also be doing fundraisers throughout the fall to reach their goal of $12,000.
Williams said, “We are proud of these girls and they have worked hard and deserve this so if we can get them there it will be really good.”
