The Magee Trojans dominated the Yazoo County Panthers in their first round playoff matchup Friday night, cruising to a 43-0 win and sending a message to the rest of the teams competing for the 3A title.
The Trojans jumped out to a 19-0 lead early in the first quarter and the game was all but over. Defensively the Trojans looked as dominant as ever, and the Panthers struggled to find any success.
Quarterback Chandler Pittman finished the game completing 13 of 17 pass attempts for 287 yards, 3 touchdowns, and an interception. He also added 61 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on five carries.
Jaylen Floyd led all receivers with 96 yards and a touchdown on 3 receptions followed by Xavier Franks with five receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown. Cayden Bridges also had 47 yards and a touchdown.
Sophomore running back Isaac Tatum saw a substantial amount of carries and finished with 68 yards and a rushing touchdown.
The Trojans have been playing championship caliber defense the entire season, which will mean the difference when being locked into the close contests down the stretch. The defense has been led by Jody Durr, who has averaged 11.1 tackles per game.
Durr finished last Friday’s game with 10 tackles and an interception. Chandler Pittman followed with 9 tackles and Jameyian Spencer with 5.
The road to a championship gets more difficult each week, but the Trojans are prepared.
Magee will host the Morton Panthers this Friday in the second round of the playoffs. Morton has an 8-2 record and is coming off a 64-30 win over Jefferson County.
