Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.



Nichols buried with full military honors

Vigil set for 9 year old

A candlelight vigil will be held this Friday night to remember Megan Purser.

The event will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee,  at 7 p.m.  Megan was the victim of a tragedy which claimed her life on May 19 of this year.

Pedestrian Killed on Hwy 49

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at approximately 7:59 PM, Magee Police Department responded to an accident involving a pedestrian on US 49 North near the intersection of US 49 North and 1st Avenue SE.  Upon arrival, officers determined that a pedestrian had attempted to cross US 49 and had been struck by two (2) vehicles.  The pedestr


Missing Person Found

Interim Sheriff Greg Reynolds reported on Tuesday April 23 2019, an area search was conducted for Elizabeth Barker. The search was extensive and included several local and state agencies. The search concluded at approximately 8:30 p.m. Barker was found on April 24 at approximately 8:00 a.m. at or near the family home.


Substitute messages student

A substitute teacher at Magee High School has reportly made inappropriate contact with a female student via the internet.

Simpson County School District leadership has refused comment, saying that the situation is a personnel matter, which is not subject to public information standards.

Mary Lee Bounds

Mary Lee Bounds, 78, passed away February 8, 2019, at her residence in D’Lo.

Visitation was held on February 11, 2019, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall.

Funeral services were held February 12, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial followed in Magee City Cemetery.


Late Marvin Lee Honored

At the quarterly board meeting of the Simpson County Development Foundation the board recognized in memorium the service of the late Marvin Lee.  Lee was a volunteer on the Foundation and made many contributions to the community through the various roles he played.  Accepting the award on behalf of the family were his son, Dexter and wife Thelm

Trojans Blow Out Tigers 54-0 in Super Bowl

From the opening kickoff to the final whistle, the stands on the Mendenhall side of the field were eerily quiet as the home standing Tigers were on the business end of a one-sided affair.  The statement from the Magee Trojans rang loud and clear Friday night, "this is our county!"  The focus and intensity of each player on the Magee sidelines,

Frances Thorne Smith, 80, of Raleigh, MS, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 15, 2019, at Simpson General Hospital. She was born April 16, 1938, to Roy and Lillian Thorne.



Kenneth Grant Craft

 Kenneth Grant Craft, 76, of Brandon, Mississippi, died Sunday at Brandon Nursing Rehab. He was born Saturday, June 20, 1942.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 31, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall.
