Felicia Diane Canoy passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.  She was born on December 28, 1984.

Survivors include her parents, Luther and Diane Canoy; beloved grandparents, John and Mary E. Hughes; brother, Johnny Canoy; sisters Stacy Canoy, Leann Roberts, Mary Nolan, Rita Jasper, Tammie Dreding, Pamela Tanner and Laura Hudson.

Jerry Purser

Jerry Purser, 64, of Magee, gained his wings Wednesday July 10, 2019, at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg. He was born Thursday, September 16, 1954.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee.

James Yelverton

James Yelverton passed away on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Magee General Hospital.  He was born on January 28, 1939, to James Albert Yelverton Jr. and Marie (Maddox) Yelverton Ware.

James worked for over 40 years with Illinois Central Gulf Railroad before retiring.  He was a lifelong member of Sharon Presbyterian Church.

Michael May

Michael May, 65, formally of Magee, passed from this life Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Jaquith Nursing Home in Pearl, Miss. He was born Wednesday, August 19, 1953.

Home invasion thwarted


The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call that came in at 5:30 a.m., Thursday, August 23.

 The incident was described by investigator Leon Wedgeworth as a home invasion that occurred at a residence on Van Zandt Road in Braxton.


School board delays election

After years of complying with restrictive hiring practices, the Simpson County School Board has issued payment to the law firm of Adams and Reese in conjunction with settlement of the court ordered consent decree from which the county has finally been released.
