Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.



Nichols buried with full military honors

Linda F. Canoy

Linda F. Canoy, 72, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Friday, July 4, 1947.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.

Vigil set for 9 year old

A candlelight vigil will be held this Friday night to remember Megan Purser.

The event will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee,  at 7 p.m.  Megan was the victim of a tragedy which claimed her life on May 19 of this year.

Johnny May

Johnny May departed this life on October 5, 2018, at Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland. Services for Mr. May are Saturday, October 13, at 11am. New Hymn, M.B. Church, Pinola. Mr. May’s final resting place will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, October 12, 9:30 am until 4 p.m. at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home.

Reverend Nathan Fitch, 92, of Magee, formerly of Rison, Arkansas, went to his heavenly home, Sunday, December 23, 2018.

Born May 5, 1926, in Yell County, he was a son of the late James Rile Fitch and Nancy Suggs Fitch.

Charles Owen Green, 88, a resident of Mendenhall, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2018, at Strong River Villas in Mendenhall. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at Calvary Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Mize. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m.



Dorothy Jo Jennings

Dorothy Jo Jennings, 83, of Mendenhall, died January 25.  She was born Friday, May 24, 1935.

Visitation was on Monday, January 28, 2019, at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall.

Funeral services were held Monday, January 28, 2019, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall. Burial followed in Mendenhall City Cemetery.
