Simpson County is a great place to call home and here’s why

T his week marked the 63 annual  banquet for the Magee Chamber of Commerce. 

That speaks volumes about a community and its leadership.  Mendenhall is also about to celebrate their 60th annual banquet.  It is a great accomplishment that our Simpson County community has that long a tenured success with their organizations.

Jennifer Marie Craft

Jennifer Marie Craft gained her heavenly wings on Friday, March 8, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on November 3, 1972, to her parents, Kenny and Kathy Allen O’Neil.


Buglars hit county

On February 29 at approximately 1 p.m. a resident on Heed Neely Road returned home and discovered that their front door had been kicked open and the burglars were still inside the home.


Charles Ray Roberts

Charles Ray Roberts 82, of Wiggins, MS, passed away July 20, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his parents, C.B. and Nettie Roberts; step-son, Pascal Martin; and step-daughter, Kim Ladner.

Council of Governments


The Simpson County Development Foundation held a Council of Governments meeting on  Jan. 7, at Zip’s Restaurant to bring together local government leaders for a discussion of issues pertaining to all of them.  Sen. Chris Caughman and Reps. Price Wallace and Noah Sanford shared information from the state legislature.  For more, see 


Vicki Lynn King Bailey

Vicki Lynn King Bailey, 51, of Mendenhall, passed away Tuesday at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 21, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee with burial in Galilee Baptist Church Cemetery.

Willie Jean Shorter

Willie Jean Shorter, 87, of Braxton, died Wednesday at Baptist Hospital. She was born Saturday, September 6, 1930.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 18, 2018, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Braxton. Burial  followed in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall handled  arrangements.

Trustmark supports Angel Wings

Trustmark President, Brandon Hubbard, presents a check in the amount of $1,000 to Wendy Seals, excutive director of Angel Wings Outreach Center.  Much of the funding for Angel Wings comes directly from private donations.  For more information about Angel Wings or domestic abuse you may contact them at 601-847-5802.  




Robbery suspects held


On January 3, 2018, at approximately 9:57 p.m. , the manager of Wards Restaurant in Magee reported to the Magee Police Department via 911 that they had been robbed at gunpoint by a man who had taken an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. The suspect had then fled from the store. 

Body found and identified

At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, November 20, the Magee Police Department responded to a call describing a dead body near the Highway 28 West and Highway 49 intersection.

Assistant Chief Joey Womack explained that a body was lying in the road not far from the CEFCO and Texaco service stations.

2017 Year in Review

Simpson County saw both highs and lows during the year 2017. New faces went into office and new members went onto boards. We have seen triumph in high school sporting teams who dominated the competition, but we also saw tragedy with armed robberies and crime throughout the county.
