Pedestrian Killed on Hwy 49

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at approximately 7:59 PM, Magee Police Department responded to an accident involving a pedestrian on US 49 North near the intersection of US 49 North and 1st Avenue SE.  Upon arrival, officers determined that a pedestrian had attempted to cross US 49 and had been struck by two (2) vehicles.  The pedestr

A women’s Bible study is in session and will meet again on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 9 a.m. in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church of Magee.  The study is No Other Gods by Kelly Minter, and the group leader is Charlie White.  Study books are $13.  All  women in the community are welcome to participate.




DA announces criminal convictions

District Attorney Matt Sullivan announces the following defendants were recently adjudicated guilty at the Circuit Courthouse in Mendenhall.  They were sentenced to significant punishments for felony crimes committed in the Thirteenth District.  Simpson County: Derrick Hopkins received 45 years for five counts of Burglary.  Oliver McNair receiv

Maggie Lou Benton

Maggie Lou Benton, 74, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, died Saturday at her home in Mendenhall. She was born Thursday, December 23, 1943.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marie Sullivan Palmer went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Visitation is 4pm-7pm today, Sunday February 4, 2018 and again 10am Monday at First Baptist Church of Byram where Mrs. Palmer was a faithful member.

Thomas A. Smith, 78, of D Lo, MS passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at Simpson General Hospital in Mendenhall, MS. He was born Monday, February 13, 1939 in Farmingdale, IL.

Simpson’s softball girls never quit

Simpson’s softball team has become the Comeback Queens with two come-from-behind walk off wins in the Overall State AAAA MAIS Tournament. The Lady Cougars had a walk off win against Copiah on Saturday 3-2. They saved their best for last. Trailing 7-1 against Oak Forest, the Lady Cougars roared back to take a walk off 9-8 win.
