Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.



Nichols buried with full military honors

Linda F. Canoy

Linda F. Canoy, 72, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Friday, July 4, 1947.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.

Vigil set for 9 year old

A candlelight vigil will be held this Friday night to remember Megan Purser.

The event will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee,  at 7 p.m.  Megan was the victim of a tragedy which claimed her life on May 19 of this year.

Ilda Mae Taylor passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family.   She was born on December 3, 1942,  to her parents, the late Hillman B. Miller and Myrtle (Cook) Miller.



Dustin William Grubbs

Dustin William Grubbs, 34, died from an auto accident on Saturday, November 3, 2018. He was a volunteer fireman with the Magee Fire Department and was responding to a fire call when the accident occurred. 

Dustin was born on May 18, 1984, to William (Billy) Grubbs and Rebecca (Wilborn) Walker.


Johnny King

Johnny King departed this life on October 30, 2018, in Jackson. Memorial services for Mr. King will be Saturday, November 10, at 11 a.m. at Westhaven Funeral Home inJackson. Final resting place will be Jackson Crematory.
