Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.



Nichols buried with full military honors

Linda F. Canoy, 72, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Friday, July 4, 1947.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.

Dean was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  She had a large family that loved her dearly.  She had a loving heart and will be missed by all that knew her.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2019, at the Mount Olive Presbyterian Church for Ann Tew Magee, 73, of Mount Olive, who passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2019, in Jackson.

Interment was in the McNair Cemetery in Mount Olive. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mount Olive was in charge of the arrangements.


James Hiram Smith

James Hiram Smith, 83, of Mendenhall,  passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home, on Friday, August 23, 2019, surrounded by his loving family in Mendenhall. He was born Friday, May 15, 1936.

Visitation was held on Monday, August 26, 2019, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Mendenhall.


Joy Parker

Joy Lee Gray-Parker Robinson died August 14, 2019.

She is survived by her son, William Eli Parker; daughter, Polly Robinson; brothers, Henry Eli Gray, Gerrard Gray, Johnny Gray; sisters, Marie Kelly, Naomi Crowell, Elaine Fuller, Pauline Pickle, Margaret Faye Biggs; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.


Theodoshia Josephine Thompson

Theodoshia (Docia) Josephine Thompson, 65, of Magee died Thursday, August 15, at her home in White Oak, Miss. 

Visitation was on Sunday evening, August 18, 2019, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Magee.

Services were held Monday, August 19, 2019, at the funeral home with burial in Everett Cemetery.


Frankie Lou Hankins

Frankie Lou Hankins, 74, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on August 19, 2019, in Jackson, Mississippi.

A memorial service was held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Mendenhall United Pentecostal Church in Mendenhall with Brother George Owens officiating.

Mary Imogene Franklin, 89, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, died Sunday at her home in Mendenhall. She was born Sunday, January 20, 1929.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall.

Lila Bell Mack departed this life December 16, in Jackson. Services for Ms. Mack were Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Westhaven Funeral home, Jackson, MS.  Ms. Mack’s final resting place is Autumn Woods Cemetery, Northside Drive, Jackson.  Services and arrangements entrusted to Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home of Magee.

 

 



Judy Carol Brown

Judy Carol Brown, 69, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2019. She was born on January 22, 1949, to the late John Henry Brown and Ocie Audell (Sellers) Brown.

Judy is survived by brothers Harold Brown, Rickey Brown (Melinda), Regie Brown (Karon); sisters Betty McDonald, Patricia Ann McLeod and Connie Coley.



Mildred Lou Herchenhahn St. John

Mildred Lou Herchenhahn St. John, 88, of Magee, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was born Tuesday, March 11, 1930. Mildred was affectionately known by her friends and family as Mamma, Gran, and Mil, and spent her life serving the Lord through her service to others.
