Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.

Linda F. Canoy, 72, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Friday, July 4, 1947.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.

Vigil set for 9 year old

A candlelight vigil will be held this Friday night to remember Megan Purser.

The event will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee,  at 7 p.m.  Megan was the victim of a tragedy which claimed her life on May 19 of this year.

John Wiley Sullivan

John Wiley Sullivan, 64, passed away on December 24, 2018, due to complications related to a stroke.  He was born on December 24, 1954, to the late G.D. Sullivan and Wilma (Bishop) Sullivan.

He is survived by his brothers, Jimmie Sullivan and David Sullivan; and one sister, Kathy Sullivan.

Christopher D. Jones Jr., three months,  departed this life. Services for Baby Chris were Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Westhaven Chapel, Jackson, MS.  Final resting place is Springhill Church Cemetery, Raymond, MS.  Services and arrangements are entrusted to Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home of Magee.

Bessie G. Brown departed this life on October 28 at University Medical Center in Jackson. Services for Ms. Brown are Saturday, November 10, at 11 a.m. at First Hyde Park Baptist Church in Jackson. Ms. Brown’s final resting place will be Autumn Woods Cemetery, Northside Drive, Jackson.

Sarah Anderson “Tay” Gillespie fully lived a life of 94 years with gusto, tenacity, accomplishment, service, and love. On Sunday, December 16, she died quietly and peacefully at her home on the banks of the Strong River, which she had shared with her husband of 64 years until his death last year.

Polly Harvey, 84, of Union, Mississippi, went to Glory Land on Tuesday, Sept 25, 2018. She was born Thursday, July 19, 1934.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 28, 2018, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton.
