Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.



Nichols buried with full military honors

Linda F. Canoy, 72, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Friday, July 4, 1947.

Vigil set for 9 year old

A candlelight vigil will be held this Friday night to remember Megan Purser.

The event will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee,  at 7 p.m.  Megan was the victim of a tragedy which claimed her life on May 19 of this year.

Joseph Clifton McGinty

Joseph Clifton McGinty, 81, passed away on December 26, 2018, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He was born on August 23, 1937, to the late Ernest Clifton McGinty and Adele Abel McGinty.


John Wilson Burch

John Wilson Burch, 97, passed away October 17, in Belton, SC.

Born in Magee, he served in the US Army from 1940-1945, and was currently LT Colonel in the MS State Guard.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Rose Runnels; parents, Joe and Sally Burch; and brothers, Jim and Kylie.

School board delays election
