Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.

Linda F. Canoy, 72, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Friday, July 4, 1947.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.

Vigil set for 9 year old

A candlelight vigil will be held this Friday night to remember Megan Purser.

The event will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee,  at 7 p.m.  Megan was the victim of a tragedy which claimed her life on May 19 of this year.

On Thursday, September 18, 2018, Lecy Bridges Purvis, mother of five children, passed away at the age of 92. Lecy was born in the Old Pearl Community in Simpson County and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was an award-winning gardener.

Visitation was held Monday, October 29, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Raleigh, and on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at White Oak Baptist Church until the 11 a.m. service at White Oak Baptist Church.  Burial followed in S.W. Dukes Family Cemetery.

James Lamar McLeod passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the age of 50 in New Orleans, LA. He was born on January 3, 1968, in Magee, MS to Jimmy L. and Mary Jo McLeod.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jo McLeod.

James is survived by his father, Jimmy L. McLeod and sister, Julie Odom.
