Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.



Nichols buried with full military honors

Linda F. Canoy

Linda F. Canoy, 72, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, passed away Monday, September 9, 2019 at her home in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She was born Friday, July 4, 1947.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.

Vigil set for 9 year old

A candlelight vigil will be held this Friday night to remember Megan Purser.

The event will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee,  at 7 p.m.  Megan was the victim of a tragedy which claimed her life on May 19 of this year.

Linda Lou Presson, 73, of Meridian, passed away on November 21, 2018, at Regency Hospital. 

  She was born on July 8, 1945 to William and Rena (Maples) Langston in Newport News, VA.


Arrest Reports 7-4-2019

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 24 arrests from June 24 to July1.

The SCSO reported the following additional arrests: speeding (2), driving with license suspended (3), warrant (2), public intoxication,  trespassing (3), possession of paraphernalia (4), disturbing the peace, DUI 1st (4), hold, and DUI 1st other (3).


Rose Mary Wells

Rose Mary Wells, 64, of Magee, died Tuesday at Magee General Hospital. She was born Sunday, November 29, 1953.

Ms. Wells was of the Christian faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents Rayford Wells and Bonnie Wells.


William Glen Sanford

William Glen Sanford, 71, of Mount Olive, Mississippi, died Monday at in his residence.

Visitation was held on Friday, November 23, 2018,  at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 23, 2018.  Burial followed at Magee City Cemetery.





Lela Belle Robinson

Lela Belle Robinson, 95, of Mize, passed away Monday, December 10, 2018, at Magee General Hospital. She was born Saturday, March 31, 1923.

Visitation was held on Friday, December 14, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church in Raleigh.
