Magee returns to the win column

Not every win is pretty.  Not every win is a blowout.  Sometimes, teams have to do what it takes just to get the W and move on.  After their first loss of the season last week at West Marion, the Trojans returned to the friendly confines of Trojan Field for the 2019 Homecoming game against district foe the Tylertown Chiefs. 



County at odds over liquor

By the time this letter is printed, we will have had our election, and, hopefully the little county wide war regarding liquor will be over.  Throughout this campaign, I have been relatively silent on the issue, with the exception of a couple of social media posts.

Purdum hired as public defender

The Mendenhall Mayor and Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting on December 4. There were several items on the agenda. The board accepted the resignation of Witt Fortenberry as the city’s public defender, and moved to employ Chris Purdum as his replacement. Purdum previously served as the city’s municipal judge.


Arrest Reports 6-6-19

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 17 arrests from May 27 to June 3.

Anthony Bradford of 222 North Oak Mize MS was arrested in May 31 and charged with trafficking controlled substances.

Gary Walker of Lishman Road Braxton MS was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

School board delays election

After years of complying with restrictive hiring practices, the Simpson County School Board has issued payment to the law firm of Adams and Reese in conjunction with settlement of the court ordered consent decree from which the county has finally been released.
