Robert Nuel Cole

Robert Nuel Cole, 63, of Magee, passed away Friday, March 15, 2019. He was born Saturday, December 17, 1955.

Visitation was held on Monday, March 18, 2019, at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.


Fred Milling Jr.

Fred Milling Jr. passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019.  He was born on September 10, 1942, to the late Fred Earl Milling Sr. and Cecil Sullivan Milling.

He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Becky Adams Milling.



James Paul Mathis

James Paul Mathis, 72, of Mendenhall passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019. He was born Thursday, February 6, 1947.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Weathersby Baptist Church Cemetery in Mendenhall. Rev. Dana Blackwell officiated.


Thomas Joseph Fontanille

Thomas Joseph Fontanille, Sr., 79, of Mendenhall,  passed away peacefully Saturday, March 16. He was born Saturday, September 30, 1939.

Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Magee City Cemetery in Magee.  Burial will follow in Magee City Cemetery.

Buglars hit county

On February 29 at approximately 1 p.m. a resident on Heed Neely Road returned home and discovered that their front door had been kicked open and the burglars were still inside the home.

The 59th Mendenhall Area Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held Thursday, March 22, at the Armory.  A silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m.  Dinner and the program begin at 7 p.m.  Tickets are $25.  For information or tickets, call the Chamber office at 601-847-1725.

School board delays election

After years of complying with restrictive hiring practices, the Simpson County School Board has issued payment to the law firm of Adams and Reese in conjunction with settlement of the court ordered consent decree from which the county has finally been released.
