Tootsie celebrates 102

Tootsie Edmonson, formerly of Magee, will observe her 102nd birthday on Thursday, May 31, in Jackson with family.  But the big birthday bash for her will happen on Sunday, June 3, when friends and members of her church, First Baptist of Magee, show up to celebrate this special occasion with her.

At 102, “Miss Tootsie,” as she was known in Magee, is a member of a very elite group called supercentenarians because they are over 100 years old.  Only 22 in 100,000 Americans reach this age.

Depending on whom you talk to, you will hear Miss Tootsie described as  “a good Bible student,” “a reader,”  “a faithful library worker,” or “a great cook.”  But the most frequent description of the woman who spent her life in Magee helping others is “a remarkable woman with a loving, positive spirit, who has always maintained a great attitude.”

First Baptist Church of Magee will host a birthday party for Tootsie Edmonson on Sunday, June 3, from 3-5 p.m. in the parlor of the Family Life Center.

The family has requested no gifts.
