Arrest Reports 7-18-2019

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 20 arrests from July 8 to July 15.

The SCSO reported the following additional arrests: DUI 1st (7), warrant (4), DUI 1st (3), ATV on road, stalking, possession of paraphernalia, taking motor vehicle, fleeing, and domestic violence.

Magee 9U All Stars are Cal Ripken MS State Champs and SouthWest Regional Champs! They will compete in the Cal Ripken 9U World Series in Treasure Coast, Fla., August 3-11,.




WNV case reported

Today the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reports its first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) in 2019. The reported case is in Smith County.

In 2018, Mississippi had 50 WNV cases and no deaths. The first case was reported in mid-July.

Bettie Marie Everett Little

Early Saturday morning, July 13, 2019, Bettie Marie Everett Little, peacefully passed from this life for her eternal home.  She was born on November 18, 1926, in Magee to Anslem Sylvester and Claudie Annette Rankin Everett.  On December 30, 1931, there was a tornado off Pine Grove Road.  Annette was running for cover to a storm shelter with her

The Members Golf Association of Simpson County Country Club is well into its second year and making great strides toward improving the quality of our golf course.  Our two main goals of quality burmuda grass and increasing membership are slowly coming around.  While at times it appears there is little interest in golf in Simpson County, the MGA

Home invasion thwarted

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call that came in at 5:30 a.m., Thursday, August 23.

 The incident was described by investigator Leon Wedgeworth as a home invasion that occurred at a residence on Van Zandt Road in Braxton.

Frances Thorne Smith

Frances Thorne Smith, 80, of Raleigh, MS, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 15, 2019, at Simpson General Hospital. She was born April 16, 1938, to Roy and Lillian Thorne.


Fred Milling Jr.

Fred Milling Jr. passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019.  He was born on September 10, 1942, to the late Fred Earl Milling Sr. and Cecil Sullivan Milling.

He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Becky Adams Milling.

Rodney Lee Sullivan, 27, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019.

Funeral services were May 20 at 3 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Bro. Jay Hays and Bro. James Fortenberry officiated.




Tammye P. Allen

 Tammye P. Allen, age 58, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.  She was born on August 4, 1960, in Jackson, Miss., to James and Hilda Allen.



Rose Sullivan Huff

Rose Sullivan Huff, 81, died Sunday, February 10, 2019,  at Forrest General Hospital. 

  She is survived by her two sons, Jack Sullivan Jr. (Katie) and Jeffrey Sullivan; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
