Trojan Players Recognized

The Magee Trojans had an outstanding season notching 10 wins and making a third round playoff appearance. The team worked hard throughout the season, and several of the Trojan players were recognized for their accomplishments by being named to the All-Division teams. The Trojans had 11 players to receive All-Division honors.

Funeral services for Reverend Andrew Keys, 67, Collins, MS were held on Saturday, November 20, 2019 at 1PM from Rocky Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Collins.  Interment was in the Old Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Collins, MS.  Program Officiant was Reverend Dr. L. C.




Thumbs Down

Thumbs down on the condition of downtown streets this hole measures almost four feet by two feet.  It also appears as though the city is no longer sweeping streets downtown.  They were doing Main Avenue but the side streets are not being maintained.


Arrest Reports 12-5-2019

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 35 arrests from November 25 to December 2.

Billy Sullivan of 113 Gary Road Magee MS was arrested on December 2 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and writing bad checks.

Simpson played one game last week against Jackson Prep.

Girls Game Jackson Prep

Simpson 52 Prep 42-Scoring for Simpson were with Alissa Brewer with 23 points, T K Catchings 11, Anna Claire Walker 6, Gracie Bowen 5, Ma’Nia Womack 4, and Maddie Moody 3. The win improved Simpson’s record to 12-0 on the season.

Christmas Tour Sunday, December 1, 2019

The Ollie Mayhall BYW of the First Baptist Church of Magee is hosting a Christmas Tour Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 2-4 PM.  The Raynold and Tiffany Kinslow home, The Russell building including the offices and apartment of Debra and Jonathan Styron, and Hopewell Presbyterian Church are included on the tour.  Tickets are $10 and may be purchase

Missing Person Found

Interim Sheriff Greg Reynolds reported on Tuesday April 23 2019, an area search was conducted for Elizabeth Barker. The search was extensive and included several local and state agencies. The search concluded at approximately 8:30 p.m. Barker was found on April 24 at approximately 8:00 a.m. at or near the family home.



Substitute messages student

A substitute teacher at Magee High School has reportly made inappropriate contact with a female student via the internet.

Simpson County School District leadership has refused comment, saying that the situation is a personnel matter, which is not subject to public information standards.

Gregory Jackson, departed this life on October 29, 2018, in Los Angeles, California. Services for Mr. Jackson were Saturday, November 10, 2018, 3:00 P.M. at Westhaven Chapel in Jackson. Mr. Jackson’s final resting plcae is Autum Woods Cemetery, Northside Drive, Jackson, MS.

Polly Harvey, 84, of Union, Mississippi, went to Glory Land on Tuesday, Sept 25, 2018. She was born Thursday, July 19, 1934.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 28, 2018, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Morrison Heights Baptist Church in Clinton.


Dean William Holmes

Dean William Holmes, 62, of Braxton,  died Sunday, November 4, 2018, at his home in Braxton. He was born Monday, March 12, 1956.

Jackie Lou Styron, 85, of Magee, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2018.

Visitation was held on Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.


Joseph Clifton McGinty

Joseph Clifton McGinty, 81, passed away on December 26, 2018, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, MS. He was born on August 23, 1937, to the late Ernest Clifton McGinty and Adele Abel McGinty.



Mary Nell Grantham

Mary Nell Grantham, 74, of Harrisville passed away on October 9, 2018.

Visitation was held on October 11, 2018, at the New Covenant Church in Harrisville.  Funeral services were held  October 12, 2018, at New Covenant Church with  burial following in Harrisville Cemetery.

Carter Terry Lee Taylor was born unto the Lord Monday, October 15, 2018 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg.
