Board hears proposal

The Mendenhall Mayor and Board of Aldermen met on December 3 for their regularly scheduled meeting to discuss a proposal made by Steve Womack on behalf of Maintenance System Incorporated (MSI). Womack made contact with the board in November and submitted information for their review.

Arrest Reports 12-12-2019

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 25 arrests from December 2 to December 9.

The SCSO reported the following additional arrests: domestic violence (2), warrants (5), MDOC (2), DUI 1st, court order, driving with license suspended (2), disturbing the peace, and reckless driving.


Willie Earl McNair

Funeral services for Mr. Willie Earl McNair, 74, Magee, MS were held on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at 1PM from Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Magee, MS.  Interment was in the church cemetery.  Pastor Ralph Walker officiated the services.  Reeves Funeral Home, Inc. Mount Olive, MS was in charge of the arrangements.


Minnie Lou Bryd Langston

Minnie Lou Byrd Langston was born on July 5, 1943, in New Hebron, Mississippi. She was the oldest of 11 children reared by Charlie Byrd and Viola Davis Byrd. On Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Canon Hospice in Gulfport, Mississippi, Minnie was called to join the Savior.

The Ollie Mayhall BYW of the First Baptist Church of Magee is hosting a Christmas Tour Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 2-4 PM.  The Raynold and Tiffany Kinslow home, The Russell building including the offices and apartment of Debra and Jonathan Styron, and Hopewell Presbyterian Church are included on the tour.  Tickets are $10 and may be purchase

Missing Person Found

Interim Sheriff Greg Reynolds reported on Tuesday April 23 2019, an area search was conducted for Elizabeth Barker. The search was extensive and included several local and state agencies. The search concluded at approximately 8:30 p.m. Barker was found on April 24 at approximately 8:00 a.m. at or near the family home.



Substitute messages student

A substitute teacher at Magee High School has reportly made inappropriate contact with a female student via the internet.

Simpson County School District leadership has refused comment, saying that the situation is a personnel matter, which is not subject to public information standards.

Bennie Mae Bryant, 86, of Mize passed away  Sept. 11, 2019, at her home in Mize.

Visitation was held on Sept. 14, 2019, at Union Baptist Church in Raleigh, with services following at 11 a.m. Burial was in the church cemetery.



Alma Russell

Alma Russell passed away on Friday, September 21, 2019, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Miss. surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on August 31, 1941, to Clyde Earl Newman and Vernice (Champagne) Newman in Hammond, La.


Carolyn Virginia Sullivan

Carolyn Virginia Sullivan, 82, of Magee, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2019, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson. Virginia was born Thursday, June 24, 1937.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.


Austin Lee Dixon

Austin Lee Dixon, 19, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019, from an automobile accident.   He was born December 20, 1999 in Centreville, MS. 

He worked at Hood Paper Mill as a Line Operator, served in the U.S. Army, and was in active duty with the Army Reserve.



Mary Gayle Donnell

Mary Gayle Donnell, 89, of Mendenhall passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019. This lovely, kind and gracious lady was born in the D’Lo Hospital on June 17, 1930.

Visitation was held on Monday, August 5, 2019, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon at First Baptist Church of Mendenhall.
