Vigil set for 9 year old

A candlelight vigil will be held this Friday night to remember Megan Purser.

The event will be held at Goodwater Baptist Church, Magee,  at 7 p.m.  Megan was the victim of a tragedy which claimed her life on May 19 of this year.

arrest report 8-22-2019

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 32 arrests from August 12 to August 19.

Chad Michael Dixon of 23 Golf Course Road Hattiesburg MS was arrested on August 12 and charged with possession of methamphetamine.


Dean McGovern

Dean was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  She had a large family that loved her dearly.  She had a loving heart and will be missed by all that knew her.


Martha Thames

Martha Smith Thames went to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 11, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on December 20, 1934, to Ray Kelly Smith and Emmai Gallman Smith in Drew, MS.


Joy Parker

Joy Lee Gray-Parker Robinson died August 14, 2019.

She is survived by her son, William Eli Parker; daughter, Polly Robinson; brothers, Henry Eli Gray, Gerrard Gray, Johnny Gray; sisters, Marie Kelly, Naomi Crowell, Elaine Fuller, Pauline Pickle, Margaret Faye Biggs; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Hilmon Bynum, 85, of Braxton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 21, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was born Sunday, May 6, 1934.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall.



Paul B. Thompson

Paul B. Thompson, 82, passed away Friday, July 19. He was born Tuesday, September 1, 1936.

Visitation was Saturday, July 20, 2019, at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.

Funeral services were  July 21, 2019, at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee. Burial followed in Magee City Cemetery.





Everett Eddie Pearson

Everett Eddie Pearson, 83, of Coldwater, Miss., died at Baptist Desoto Hospital in Southaven, Miss.

Visitation was held Wednesday, July 24, 2019,  at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Mendenhall.

Home invasion thwarted

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call that came in at 5:30 a.m., Thursday, August 23.

 The incident was described by investigator Leon Wedgeworth as a home invasion that occurred at a residence on Van Zandt Road in Braxton.


Pedestrian Killed on Hwy 49

On Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at approximately 7:59 PM, Magee Police Department responded to an accident involving a pedestrian on US 49 North near the intersection of US 49 North and 1st Avenue SE.  Upon arrival, officers determined that a pedestrian had attempted to cross US 49 and had been struck by two (2) vehicles.  The pedestr



Substitute messages student

A substitute teacher at Magee High School has reportly made inappropriate contact with a female student via the internet.

Simpson County School District leadership has refused comment, saying that the situation is a personnel matter, which is not subject to public information standards.

Arrest Reports 7-21-2017

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 23 arrests from September 11 to September 18.
Jason Jordan of 616 Hillen Bale Hattiesburg MS was arrested on September 16 and charged with possession of methamphetamine.
