Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins reported that during the early morning of February 10, the sheriff’s department received a call reporting a stabbing and a house fire on Garrett Road North. The Harrisville and Braxton Fire departments along with AMR responded to the fire quickly.

The board of the Simpson County School District called two special meetings prior to their regular board meeting on Jan. 9, each with a specific purpose. One was to discuss the district’s use of ballfields for high school play in Magee. The second meeting was to discuss the facilities use plan that had been produced by Bailey Consulting.

Early Wednesday morning July 31st 2019, Simpson County Sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Mendenhall Police Dept. executed a search warrant at a home on Lee Street in Mendenhall.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., the Magee Fire Department was called to 217 Scott Harrington Road Mount Olive MS in response to a fire. The page described a possible arson situation involving a male setting fire around a home. Firefighters arrived on the scene accompanied by Simpson County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Interim Sheriff Greg Reynolds reported on Tuesday April 23 2019, an area search was conducted for Elizabeth Barker. The search was extensive and included several local and state agencies. The search concluded at approximately 8:30 p.m. Barker was found on April 24 at approximately 8:00 a.m. at or near the family home.
Paul McWilliams, age 70, of D’Lo passed away on January 2, 2018.
Paul was born in Magee to John McWilliams and Annie Byrd. Mr. McWilliams was a Mason for many years at the Mendenhall Masonic Lodge 497.
Because it is early in the session, most legislative work is currently happening in committees where bills must be approved before they are introduced to the House as a whole. The deadline for bills to be filed is Monday, Jan. 15, so many committees are waiting until all bills are filed to hold meetings.
Phyllis Booth, 75, of Mendenhall, Mississippi, died Thursday at her home in Mendenhall. She was born Friday, July 17, 1942.
Jessica Lynn Mason, 78, died Friday at Hillcrest Nursing Center in Magee, Mississippi. She was born in Beacon, TN on Wednesday, April 26, 1939.

Only two candidates qualified before the deadline and participated in the June municipal election in Braxton. Incumbents Mayor Mable Everett and Alderwoman Georgia Smith were the only candidates to qualify leaving four positions on the Board of Aldermen available.
