– On Tuesday morning, the fourth grade class of Simpson County Academy took a field trip to the Mississippi State Capitol get an up close look of the legislative process in action.  The group met with the Simpson County delegation, Representative Price Wallace and Senator Chris Caughman, while on their tour.

This was the sixth week of the 2020 Legislative Session.  House members had a busy week full of committee meetings and hearings.  The deadline for the introduction of general bills and constitutional amendments is Monday, February 17, so members will remain busy over the next few weeks deciding which drafted bills will make it onto the House fl

  Barr’s misplaced loyalties — putting his boss’ desires ahead of impartial justice — are only part of the story, and arguably not even the most important.



James Raylon Mathew

James Raylon Mathew, 51, of Magee, Mississippi, passed away Monday, February 17, 2020 at Magee General Hospital. He was born Saturday, July 6, 1968.

School board looks at facility options

The board of the Simpson County School District called two special meetings prior to their regular board meeting on Jan. 9, each  with a specific purpose. One was to discuss the district’s use of ballfields for high school play in Magee.  The second meeting was to discuss the facilities use plan that had been produced by Bailey Consulting.






Missing Person Found

Interim Sheriff Greg Reynolds reported on Tuesday April 23 2019, an area search was conducted for Elizabeth Barker. The search was extensive and included several local and state agencies. The search concluded at approximately 8:30 p.m. Barker was found on April 24 at approximately 8:00 a.m. at or near the family home.

School board delays election
