Mendenhall Tigers win 21-22


The Mendenhall Tigers remain perfect but had their biggest scare of the season last Friday against the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans. The Tigers entered the game still missing a key playmaker in Michael Simmons Jr., but Tabuiz Camper was active after being sidelined for last week’s contest.

Johnny May departed this life on October 5, 2018, at Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland. Services for Mr. May are Saturday, October 13, at 11am. New Hymn, M.B. Church, Pinola. Mr. May’s final resting place will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Friday, October 12, 9:30 am until 4 p.m. at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home.

Mildred Lou Herchenhahn St. John

Mildred Lou Herchenhahn St. John, 88, of Magee, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was born Tuesday, March 11, 1930. Mildred was affectionately known by her friends and family as Mamma, Gran, and Mil, and spent her life serving the Lord through her service to others.

Ella Nora Bishop

Ella Nora Bishop, 84, of Magee passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2018, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Magee. She was born Saturday, November 18, 1933.

Visitation was held Wednesday, October 3, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.

Dorothy Jean Morris

Dorothy Jean Morris, 89, of Mendenhall died Monday at Magee General Hospital. She was born Saturday, March 9, 1929.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee.

SCA Cougars take down Columbia


The SCA Cougars traveled to Columbia Academy on Friday with a tilt with the Cougars of Columbia. Simpson received the opening kick but were not able to get anything going and were forced to punt. The Simpson defense was suffocating all night and set the tone early with a three and out by Columbia.


School board delays election

After years of complying with restrictive hiring practices, the Simpson County School Board has issued payment to the law firm of Adams and Reese in conjunction with settlement of the court ordered consent decree from which the county has finally been released.
