The Simpson County School Board met Thursday night and, based on what we were able to view, they are using logic and reason to make their decisions, whether you agree with all of them or not.
The board of the Simpson County School District called two special meetings prior to their regular board meeting on Jan. 9, each with a specific purpose. One was to discuss the district’s use of ballfields for high school play in Magee. The second meeting was to discuss the facilities use plan that had been produced by Bailey Consulting.
An accident involving an 18-wheeler and pickup truck is currently stalling traffic on Highway 49 near Mary Grove Church Road. No further information is available at this time. The story will be updated as new information becomes available.
Early Wednesday morning July 31st 2019, Simpson County Sheriff’s deputies and officers with the Mendenhall Police Dept. executed a search warrant at a home on Lee Street in Mendenhall.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., the Magee Fire Department was called to 217 Scott Harrington Road Mount Olive MS in response to a fire. The page described a possible arson situation involving a male setting fire around a home. Firefighters arrived on the scene accompanied by Simpson County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Interim Sheriff Greg Reynolds reported on Tuesday April 23 2019, an area search was conducted for Elizabeth Barker. The search was extensive and included several local and state agencies. The search concluded at approximately 8:30 p.m. Barker was found on April 24 at approximately 8:00 a.m. at or near the family home.

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 23 arrests from September 11 to September 18.
Jason Jordan of 616 Hillen Bale Hattiesburg MS was arrested on September 16 and charged with possession of methamphetamine.
Morgan Dunn of Magee is jumping into the political race for Mississippi’s Third Congressional Seat.
The seat has been held by Congressman Gregg Harper, who recently announced his decision not to seek re-election for the position he has held since 2009.
Mr. and Mrs. James Mangum and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Burch are pleased to announce the engagement of their children, Olivia Carsyn Byars and Davin James Burch. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Magee High School and the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she received her bachelor of science degree in nursing.
The Magee Board of Aldermen heard from local developer Chris Lane about a road situation at their board meeting Tuesday night, Jan. 16.
