Trojan Players Recognized

The Magee Trojans had an outstanding season notching 10 wins and making a third round playoff appearance. The team worked hard throughout the season, and several of the Trojan players were recognized for their accomplishments by being named to the All-Division teams. The Trojans had 11 players to receive All-Division honors.

Funeral services for Reverend Andrew Keys, 67, Collins, MS were held on Saturday, November 20, 2019 at 1PM from Rocky Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Collins.  Interment was in the Old Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church, Collins, MS.  Program Officiant was Reverend Dr. L. C.




Thumbs Down

Thumbs down on the condition of downtown streets this hole measures almost four feet by two feet.  It also appears as though the city is no longer sweeping streets downtown.  They were doing Main Avenue but the side streets are not being maintained.


Arrest Reports 12-5-2019

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 35 arrests from November 25 to December 2.

Billy Sullivan of 113 Gary Road Magee MS was arrested on December 2 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and writing bad checks.

Simpson played one game last week against Jackson Prep.

Simpson 52 Prep 42-Scoring for Simpson were with Alissa Brewer with 23 points, T K Catchings 11, Anna Claire Walker 6, Gracie Bowen 5, Ma’Nia Womack 4, and Maddie Moody 3. The win improved Simpson’s record to 12-0 on the season.

Sheriff reports of 41 accidents

Sheriff Donald O’Cain reported there were a total of 41 dispatches of vehicles that were called in for vehicles that slid from the roadway. 

Tuesday evening a fuel truck turned over on Highway 49 near D’Lo the sheriff reported it was empty.  There was also a log truck that turned over near Pinola. 





Ice remains on roads in parts of state; MDOT advises no travel in affected areas

JACKSON, MISS. – The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) continues its response to the winter weather event statewide and continues to advise the public to stay off roads with reported icy conditions and to limit travel to emergencies only.


Dollar General robbed again

On January 6, two armed men entered the Dollar General Store located on Highway 28 West just outside of Magee and robbed it.  It was the second robbery of the store.

The gunmen held the clerks at gunpoint and demanded money from the register. After the pair took an undisclosed amount of money they left on foot.

Simpson County Academy’s Cougar basketball teams had a busy week on the hardwood as they played games last week against Central Hinds Academy, Park Place Christian Academy, and Pelahatchie High School.
