The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 17 arrests from January 13 to January 20.
Shawn Anthony Puckett of 196 Sawmill Road Braxton MS was arrested on January 14 and charged with possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and introducing contraband.
Well, I snicker a bit when I think why the Magee Lions Club has such good programs. It goes back almost 30 years ago when I moved to Magee. Having been a Lion elsewhere I knew about the fun and good work the club did.
The banquet hall at the Country Club of Jackson was full to hear writer Andy McCarthy speak at a function hosted by Mississippi Center for Public Policy. McCarthy is a columnist for the National Review and has recently published a book, Ball of Collusion: The Plot to Rig an Election and Destroy a Presidency.

Norman Edgar Hicks Jr, (Snooks)84, of Magee, passed from this life Monday at home in Magee. He was born Friday, February 1, 1935.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.
The board of the Simpson County School District called two special meetings prior to their regular board meeting on Jan. 9, each with a specific purpose. One was to discuss the district’s use of ballfields for high school play in Magee. The second meeting was to discuss the facilities use plan that had been produced by Bailey Consulting.

The Distinguished Young Women program will be held January 18 at Boswell Auditorium at 7 p.m. with three young women vying for the county’s Distinguished Young Woman 2020.

Several reports of leaks came to the Magee Board of Aldermen for attention at their recent meeting. The leaks have followed recent borings as a result of new cable being put in Magee for high speed internet.
The Simpson County School District may have the final word on the Washington Street Park, which the City of Magee has asked the district to transfer to them.
A state law requires that if a school property no longer serves the needs of the community its ownership will revert to the school district.
Members of the Harrisville Fire Department took possession of a new piece of fire-fighting equipment last Friday afternoon. Those on hand for the event were Chancery Clerk Tommy Joe Harvey, John Ward, Supervisor Danny Craft, Chief Nathan Chain, Supervisor Brian Kennedy , J. R.

Preparing a Disaster Kit
A press released stated on Thursday morning June 6, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department had an officer involved shooting in the county. The Sheriff’s Department requested that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations take over the investigation.

On January 4, 2019, shortly after 9PM, Simpson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 202 Big Hill Road on a report of shots fired into a home. The home owner, James Pittman returned home and discovered items broken on the floor and bullet holes in the walls.

The Falcon Midgets (9 & 10 yrs) faced off with the Morton Panthers at Tiger stadium this week to determine who will go on to the semi-final rounds to be held at Jones Junior College on December 2.
This would be the second time that the Panthers and Falcons met. The first game ended in a 12-12 tie. This meeting nearly did as well.
At approximately 4 a.m. Monday, November 20, the Magee Police Department responded to a call describing a dead body near the Highway 28 West and Highway 49 intersection.
Assistant Chief Joey Womack explained that a body was lying in the road not far from the CEFCO and Texaco service stations.
On January 3, 2018, at approximately 9:57 p.m. , the manager of Wards Restaurant in Magee reported to the Magee Police Department via 911 that they had been robbed at gunpoint by a man who had taken an undisclosed amount of cash from the business. The suspect had then fled from the store.

Simpson County saw both highs and lows during the year 2017. New faces went into office and new members went onto boards. We have seen triumph in high school sporting teams who dominated the competition, but we also saw tragedy with armed robberies and crime throughout the county.
The board of directors of Simpson General Hospital made it official. On January 1, 2018, David Welch was named the administrator and chief executive officer for the hospital.
Welch had been interim administrator in March of 2016 and has worked with the hospital in various capacities since May 2007.
